Beyond the Pleasantries

“Beyond the Pleasantries” came from a series of 32nd note flurries on the right side of the drum kit. I used these motions for endings of songs—so it’s after the “pleasantries” of playing time, beats, and the song. It’s the ferocious and cacophonous ending. These motions created a beautiful multi colored abstract image that pulses with energy and urgency. It’s my hope these pieces inspire others to pursue their own musical desires or passions outside of music.

Todd Sucherman, best known as the powerhouse drummer for the legendary rock band Styx, is stepping into a bold new creative realm. Widely respected for his technical mastery, musical intuition, and expressive drumming, Sucherman is now channeling those same qualities into an entirely different medium: visual art.

In collaboration with art collective and publisher SceneFour, Sucherman is preparing to debut his first-ever art collection-an innovative series that transforms rhythm into visual form. Each piece in the collection has been created using illuminated drumsticks, wielded with the same precision and emotion that define his performances behind the kit. Rather than paint and brush, he paints with light and motion.
